I started using OneDrive about 2 weeks ago and am very satisfied with the interface and ease of use. I have been a long time user of Google Drive and have over 50 free accounts there to store my online video collection. In some ways the OneDrive interface was slicker than Google Drive, at least until Google revamped things last week. Streaming video files from OneDrive is just as easy as on Google Drive however the video seems a bit choppier. One other downside to OneDrive is that maximum file size is limited to 2GB whereas Google Drive has no such limit. This makes a difference for video collectors/sharers like me. Still, it is easy to sign up for and get accounts at this point so I strongly recommend taking advantage of the storage for whatever needs you may have. Never a bad idea to have a redundant backup of favorite pics, music, video, or other files.

There is no catch as far as I can tell. Just as with Google drive they are hoping to get you to purchase larger storage accounts and with the case of OneDrive now and likely Google in the future, hoping to get you to purchase their enhanced office applications. Google also wants to sell more chromebooks and offering free online accounts helps do this. I would certainly encrypt any files you want enhanced security on. I use my cloud storage for my public files and files I want to share anyway so security is not an issue for me.

Two other differences between Google and OneDrive. When you delete a file from OneDrive iit goes into your recycle bin in your account but the extra space is immediately available to you. On Google drive, when you delete a file you must also go to your trash bin and delete it permanently before you can recapture the emnpty space for more storage.. Alsop OneDrive does not support video streaming from .mkv files whereas Gopogle does. MKV is the current preferred video container format yet Microsoft seems intent on protecting their .wmv format as long as possible. Just use Handbrake converter to convert .mkv to.mp4 before uploading and all works fine on OneDrive. A minor inconvenience to overcome for free storage.

You know you shouldnt put copies of copyrighted videos/music/software on a shared resource. I mean the evidence would be overwhelming in the MPAA/RIAA's favor.
Not being a **** but just extending some advice

Why are we talking about video storage in a topic about online Office? If you just need storage then 15GB is nothing, would fit on your phone flash card.

From what I can see, it looks better than Goog docs, but not better than Libre and other free office alternatives that run locally. Still a good deal if you like using a browser based office suite. This is a shot across the bow of Chromebook. Now, if they produce a lightweight, low cost version of Surface using Win 8.1 and Wimboot, they will have something truly compelling. It's nice when companies compete.

MS should come out with a version of Windows 8 that runs on lower power CPUs, like ARM and .... oh, right.. never mind.

Your files will change size. They're being altered. It's suppose to be "secure" but.. then how are things being altered? I saw a write up on this. Google it.

I stay away.

^ If the file size shrinks then I'd guess that they're doing some kind of on the fly compression to reduce storage space.

Nope, it grows. It shouldn't be doing anything really, if it's truly secure.

^ But what if you download it and do a direct comparison, is it still different via CRC check?
