Anyone knows what type of games this thing plays? Like PS4 games or Xbox One games or PC games?

A mixture of PC games and games developed specifically for the steam machine consoles on Linux and SteamOS. Wikipedia says this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_Machine_(hardware_platform)#Games_and_applications

Spend a little more and get an i5 machine instead of an i3. Of course an i7 would be even better, but that's a bit too pricy

It's cheaper than building a gaming rig from scratch.

Still better to just get a console. Xbox One with a game is only $349.

I'm kinda on the fence about these open-source steam type boxes. Anyone have experience with the Ouya?

Yes I do - the Ouya is ****. Support for it has been lackluster and the standard controller for it is junk. It "sort of" supports PS3 controllers but not very well. One of the biggest selling points of this box is it supports a GOOD wireless controller out of the box.

I am mostly confused about what this system is trying to be and about the partial roll-out that does not even include the intended OS.

You are 100% right. The Ouya is probably the worst gadget I have ever bought.

i strongly doubt that. it is easier, though, for newbies to get in the action as everything will be in one box.

Totally pointless. Just build a gaming rig or buy an Xbox One or PS4. This machine is so weak that it will be obsolete in a year or 2

It should come with a 360 controller (since it was intended to be a Steam box but the steam controller isn't out yet)

SO it only plays specifically steam games?

It has two modes: PC and console. console is just steam in big picture mode (controller friendly interface). it's all pc though. when the steam os comes out, they're going to come out with a version that's just Steam OS but THAT will ONLY PLAY STEAM LINUX games. This on can play all Windows games since it comes with Windows 8, not steam os.

I don't know. It's 550 right now with 100 gift card. that's 450 for a pc built ground up for steam. worth it? keep in mind this is a FULL PC. it does everything a pc would do ... from work to gaming. they showed it playing assassin's creed black flag, watchdogs. to me, didn't seem that different console versions PS4/x1.
